Ulster American Homestead Garden Center Wins Quarterly Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum Award

32

James City County issued the following announcement on March 9

Back in business! The James City Clean County Commission is very excited to announce the winner of this quarter's Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum Award. The Clean County Commission along with Board of Supervisor Sue Sadler, proudly awarded Ulster American Homestead Garden Center for their sustainability efforts including offering a variety of organic plants and products, educational outreach about pollinator friendly best practices, and recycling efforts. The business is locally owned by Joel Patton and his family. Joel has been passionate about the environment since his youth in his homeland of Northern Ireland.

Virginia Peninsula Clean Business Forum Award is co-sponsored by Newport News, Hampton, and York County. Since 1997 each locality has rotated hosting a quarterly award presentation breakfast with all four winners being showcased and honored.  However due to the pandemic, the events have been on hold since 2020. The localities agreed to reopen the awards to continue highlighting local business but are presenting the awards at the place of business of the awardees rather than holding an event. In addition to the plaque presented, a sign will be placed at the storefront where it will remain for the duration of the quarter. Winners from the co-sponsoring localities include Canon Virginia from Newport News, Less Than Zero Waste + Refill Shop from Hampton, and Off Leash K9 Hampton Roads from York County.
