City of Williamsburg issued the following announcement on Aug. 4
Williamsburg Parks and Recreation will host a StoryWalk® this weekend at Waller Mill Park for National Book Lover’s Day on Aug. 9, 2021.
From Friday, Aug. 6 through Monday, Aug. 9, visitors can take a self-guided reading walk and enjoy literacy fun in the great outdoors. Waller Mill Park is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
The StoryWalk® is an activity that encourages children and their families to read while being engaged with physical activity. All are welcome to follow the 30 reading stations of the children’s book “You’re Missing It” by Brady Smith with Tiffany Thiessen.
“Visitors enjoyed our first StoryWalk® in March, and we wanted to continue these walks as a way to bring families together in the outdoors,” said Program Specialist Jinger Hickman. “This month’s StoryWalk® is a hilarious cautionary tale about what happens when you’re glued to your phone, the importance of staying in the moment, and enjoying all of the exciting things you can see on a day at the park. StoryWalk® is typically geared toward children, but this month’s event has a takeaway for the parents, too. We hope StoryWalk® will help our park visitors unplug for a moment and enjoy everything our park has to offer with their families.”
Bring your walking shoes and your reading glasses to Waller Mill Park, and enjoy our StoryWalk® all weekend long.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt., and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
