Rep. Rob Wittman, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia's 1st district since 2007, has recently shared his thoughts on various national issues through social media posts. Wittman, who succeeded Jo Ann Davis and has previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates and the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors, addressed concerns ranging from aviation safety to border security and telecommunications infrastructure.
On January 30, 2025, Rep. Wittman expressed his condolences regarding a tragic incident at Reagan National Airport. He stated, "I am devastated by the fatal crash at Reagan National Airport involving a passenger plane and military helicopter — my condolences are with all the families who lost a loved one last night." He also extended gratitude towards first responders for their efforts.
Later that day, Wittman discussed border security via another post. He remarked, "Border security is national security." He criticized the Biden administration's policies as "reckless open border policies," claiming they have allowed narcotraffickers and violent criminals into the country.
On January 31, 2025, Wittman turned his attention to foreign influence in telecommunications. He announced his intention to introduce new legislation: "We simply cannot allow foreign adversaries like China to have unfettered access to our telecommunications market." The proposed FACT Act aims to address what he describes as "malign access CCP-controlled companies have inside our critical infrastructure."
