City of Williamsburg Wins Gold Award for Water Treatment

The City of Williamsburg’s Water Treatment Plant was awarded the 2021 Excellence in Waterworks Operations/Performance Gold Award from the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Drinking Water.

The Gold Award is given to localities that meet the excellence goals in three categories: filtration, clarification, and backwash.

This is the fifth time the City’s treatment facility has received the top award. It previously won the Gold Award in 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2020, and has won five Silver and seven Bronze awards in past years. The treatment plant has received recognition for its excellence every year since 2005.

The award is part of the Virginia Optimization Program, which encourages water treatment facilities to exceed minimum regulatory standards.

Dixon Tucker, district engineer with the Office of Drinking Water, presented the Gold Award at the Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022.

The City releases an annual Water Quality Report each spring. Read the 2021 report on the City’s website at williamsburgva.gov/wqr.
