City of Williamsburg issued the following announcement on Jan. 25
The Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts today announce that residents of their six localities will begin receiving messaging stating their eligibility for Covid-19 booster shots. The message will come in text and/or robo call beginning this week. The Districts want the residents of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg and James City and York Counties to understand that these texts and/or calls are not phishing or scams. The reminders are based on the dates of primary vaccinations, information that is in the Virginia Department of Health’s Virginia Immunization Information System (VIIS).
In the United States, all adults aged 18 and older may receive a single booster dose of either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine under a revised eligibility policy that was FDA-authorized and CDC-recommended in November 2021. Single booster doses of either product may be administered at least five months after completion of a primary vaccination series or at least two months after primary vaccination with the single-dose J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. As of January 2022, Pfizer-BioNTech booster doses are also FDA-authorized for children and adolescents ages 12 and over.
The brief message is, "Virginia Department of Health records indicate you are eligible for a Booster COVID-19 vaccine. To schedule an appointment visit https://vase.vdh.virginia.gov or call (877) 829-4682." Not everyone will be contacted at first and you do not need to wait for this notification to get your vaccine booster.
"It is hoped that the message acts as a prompt for action to residents who are confused about booster eligibility or hesitant,” says Dr. Natasha Dwamena, the Health Districts’ Director.
