York County recently issued the following announcement.
Registration for the 27th session of York County’s award-winning “Safety Town” program, which teaches pre-kindergartners various aspects of life safety, will begin May 24 for York County residents and June 1 for Non-York County Residents. Safety Town is open to children entering Kindergarten in the fall. The cost is $20 for County residents; $30 for non-County residents.
This year, because of COVID precautions, three safety lessons will be taught live each day in a webinar format and two will be provided through video and supplemental resources. A mini-town with traffic signs, roadways, and tricycles will be set up indoors at York Middle School for teaching traffic and pedestrian safety. The webinar will include guest speakers, real-life props, and an instructive puppet show! This one-week session will run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. After registration, each child may choose a time slot to “ride on the town,” Monday-Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. All participants will receive a Safety Town kit which will include a backpack, a helmet, a t-shirt, and daily packets to utilize the week of Safety Town.
