Alexa Mikeska Honored as CAA Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week

After a weekend of personal bests and back-to-back victories for the Tribe, freshman guard Alexa Mikeska can add another accolade to her ever-growing list—Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

It's the first time Mikeska has garnered the award and the second conference honor for a W&M player this season.

Against Hampton on Thursday evening, Mikeska led the Green and Gold with a career-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. The do-it-all Carlsbad, Calif. native, who has started every game of the conference season, also added six rebounds, four assists, one block, and one steal against the Lady Pirates.

In Sunday's 80-74 overtime victory at Charleston, Mikeksa once again packed her stat sheet. Recording career-highs with seven rebounds and seven assists, she also notched six points, blocked a pair of shots, and recorded a steal. W&M head coach Erin Dickerson Davis said Mikeska was "playing like a veteran" in the come-from-behind win, lauding her ability to help set up teammates for big-time shots when it mattered most.

Additionally, over each of her last three games, Mikeksa has topped her season-high in minutes played, most recently racking up 36. She also sits 14th in the conference in assists per game (2.7), tied with teammate Riley Casey.

W&M returns to Kaplan Arena on Friday evening for the first of two straight games at home. The Tribe will take on UNCW first, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m., before squaring off against Delaware at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The matinee is part of the team's National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration, and fans are encouraged to sign up for the free pre-game youth clinic. More information is available here.
