Anna Porter Dubbed CAA Defensive Player of the Week
Anna Porter has been named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon. Porter totaled 46 digs over two matches as the Tribe split a pair of contests at CAA co-favorite Elon.
Porter is the third Tribe player to win a weekly award as Sarah Callender and Ryann Love each picked up Rookie of the Week honors earlier this month.
In Saturday's three-set match, Porter recorded 22 digs, over seven per set. The senior also provided four assists in the match. In Sunday's five-set victory, Porter led the Green and Gold with 24 digs and added six assists.
On the weekend, the Atlanta native collected 5.75 digs per set and is now second in the CAA with 207 total digs, 4.70 per frame. The libero surpassed the 900 career dig mark this weekend and sits in fifth place in William & Mary history.
Through 12 games, Porter has dug at least 15 attacks in nine matches and has reached the 20 dig mark in four of the team's last five contests. The only tilt in the past five in which Porter did not reach 20 digs, the libero recorded 16 digs in a three-set sweep of UNCW.
Porter has led a Tribe defense that ranks second in the CAA averaging 15.34 digs per set. William & Mary also ranks in the top half of the league in opponent hitting percentage, opponent kills, and opponent aces per set.
Despite being a libero, Porter has made her mark on the Tribe's offense dishing out 45 assists and serving up eight aces. Porter has often set up the Tribe offense with a strong first touch, returning serves at a 97% clip.
Porter and the rest of the Tribe will host CAA newcomer Stony Brook this Saturday and Sunday at Kaplan Arena.
