Williamsburg–James City County Public Schools (WJCC) reported improvements or maintained results in all five subject areas from the previous year, surpassing Virginia’s statewide averages in each area.

According to a WJCC Schools news release, the division showed progress in the 2024–2025 Standards of Learning results released by the Virginia Department of Education. The results indicated improvements or stability across reading, writing, math, science, and history compared to the prior year. Additionally, chronic absenteeism declined to 9.9% from 10.6%, as per Virginia’s School Quality Profile.

The detailed reporting highlighted gains among several student groups. English Learner students recorded a 5-point increase in math pass rates, while Black students improved by 2 points each in history and science. Hispanic students achieved an 8-point increase in science pass rates, and overall Algebra I results rose by 4 points.

“Last year’s SOL results are just one way our students demonstrate how they learn and grow across the school year,” said Daniel F. Keever, Ph.D., WJCC Schools superintendent. Keever expressed appreciation for “the hard work and commitment of each of our teachers, staff members, school leaders, and support employees.” He emphasized that their key priority remains “the pursuit of academic success for every student,” expressing pride in the progress made and anticipation for future achievements as they strive to become “the premier school division in Virginia.”
