William & Mary head women’s golf coach Jonathan Howard announced on May 7 the signing of Abigail Avallone to the Tribe program.
The addition of Avallone is seen as a significant step for the team as it prepares for the upcoming season. Howard said, “We are excited for the opportunity to add a talented, charismatic young lady like Abigail to our program. Her junior resume speaks volumes and though her demeanor is calm, she has a tenacious drive that will continue to elevate her game and our program.”
Avallone joins Srihitha Mandava and Tess Morris as part of William & Mary’s incoming freshman class for fall 2026. She had a notable prep career at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, being named Washington Post First Team All-Met three times after leading her team to three consecutive Washington Metro Private School Girls’ individual and team State Championships.
In 2023, Avallone won the 46th Maryland Girls’ Junior Amateur with a two-round score of one-under-par 143, including a final round of 69. That same year, she earned medalist honors at the 102nd Maryland Women’s Amateur by shooting seven-under-par in stroke play—a record—qualifying her for championship match play. She also finished second and third in subsequent years at other state-level junior amateur events and represented Maryland in the Poindexter Cup.
Beyond athletics, Avallone achieved top academic honors every year at Stone Ridge and served as leader of the Cancer Awareness Research and Education Club.
In its first season under Howard’s leadership, William & Mary posted a stroke average ranking among its best historically and finished fifth at this year’s Colonial Athletic Association Championships—the team’s highest conference finish since 2016.
