Riverside Cardiology Specialists Newport News welcomes Dr. Divya Gumber

16

Riverside Cardiology Specialists Newport News welcomes Dr. Divya Gumber, a board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure and transplant.

Dr. Gumber earned her medical degree from the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed a residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She completed a cardiology fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She earned several awards and scholarships throughout her academic career, including the American Society of Hematology Medical Student Research Award.

Dr. Gumber's specialization in advanced heart failure and transplant allows her to provide nuanced care to patients with heart failure and those who have had or who may benefit from advanced support like Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), artificial hearts and heart transplant. She also welcomes patients with general cardiology issues.

She believes that patients have the right to be fully involved in their care and the importance of listening and putting patient needs first. She also takes the time to explain the “why” behind each treatment, prescription or diagnostic workup.

After growing up in India and Canada and living in several different U.S. cities during medical school and training, Dr. Gumber and her husband (also a physician) settled in the Newport News area. She enjoys the diversity and local culture of our region, visiting the beach, travel, yoga, reading and watching shows.
