City of Williamsburg issued the following announcement on Oct. 15

The Virginia Department of Health’s (VDH) Peninsula and Hampton Health Districts announce the opening of a state-run COVID-19 Community Vaccination Clinic (CVC) on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 13785 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA (in the Sherwood Shopping Center).  VDH has contracted with AshBritt Environmental Inc. to operate the CVC.  At this time, this is the only CVC on the Virginia Peninsula. 

Dr. Natasha Dwamena, Director of Peninsula and Hampton Health Districts commented, "Vaccination serves a critical role in reaching an end to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unvaccinated individuals are at increased risk for severe illness, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. The opening of the CVC site at Sherwood is a welcomed and needed addition that expands vaccine access in our district"

The CVC will operate Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the last appointment at 7:30 pm.  Pfizer boosters are available to individuals who received the second dose of their Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine six or more months ago and meet one of the following criteria:

• Are 65 years and older 
• 18 and above with underlying medical conditions
• Live or work in a high risk setting (ex: healthcare workers, first responders, teachers, educational staff, grocery store employees, postal employees, and others)

Virginians can also visit the Newport News CVC for their first and second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, as well as the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.  Additionally, those who are immunosuppressed and need a third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine may receive them at no cost at the Newport News site. 

Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are strongly encouraged to avoid wait times.  Visit vaccinate.virginia.gov to schedule an appointment or call 877-VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682, TTY users call 7-1-1). Assistance is available in English, Spanish and more than 100 other languages.

Those who have an appointment should arrive no earlier than 20 minutes prior to the appointment time. Anyone who has received a prior COVID-19 vaccine should bring his or her vaccine card or vaccine record with a QR code. If you need a copy of your vaccine record, visit vaccinate.virginia.gov.
