Rep. Rob Wittman, a congressman representing Virginia’s 1st district, shared several insights through a series of tweets on May 2, 2025, addressing various community engagements and policy discussions.
Wittman expressed his continued engagement with Virginians, highlighting his visit to a local restaurant over breakfast. On May 2, he tweeted, “I always appreciate the chance to hear directly from Virginians about the issues that matter most to them, especially over breakfast at a local restaurant!” The breakfast, held at Eggs Up Grill in Mechanicsville, focused on discussions around education and transportation.
Later that day, Wittman emphasized the importance of Social Security and Medicare, describing them as earned benefits, not entitlements. In a tweet, he elaborated on his efforts to gather feedback and ideas for these programs. On May 2, he tweeted, “Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements—they are earned benefits tied to a lifetime of work.”
Wittman also attended the Capitol Reception, celebrating Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. As an alumnus of both institutions, he expressed his honor to participate and interact with alumni and officials. On May 2, he shared, “As a proud alum of both @Virginia_Tech and @VCU—and a former member of the @VTCorpsofCadets—it was a pleasure to attend the Capitol Reception celebrating both institutions.”
Wittman, who assumed office in 2007 following Jo Ann Davis, has a background in local government, having served in the Virginia House of Delegates and Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors. Born in Washington, D.C., he currently lives in Montross and earned his BS from Virginia Tech in 1981.
