Rep. Rob Wittman, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 1st district, has raised concerns regarding the conditions at the Colonial Heights facility. In a series of tweets, he has called for transparency, accountability, and improved oversight in long-term care settings.

On April 23, 2025, Wittman addressed the issue during an appearance on CBS6. He stated, “I joined @CBS6 to address the troubling situation at the Colonial Heights facility.” Wittman emphasized the importance of ensuring Medicare funds are directed toward quality care for seniors.

Later that evening, Wittman reiterated his call for action, highlighting the importance of treating seniors with dignity and implementing effective oversight measures. He tweeted, “Our seniors deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion, and it’s critical that oversight systems are working to protect them.” He pointed to troubling reports from the Colonial Heights Rehab Center as the impetus for demanding greater accountability.

In a tweet dated April 24, Wittman shifted focus to highlight Virginia’s rich historical heritage. He shared, “I’m proud to represent Virginia’s First Congressional District, which is blessed with so many historical sites.” He mentioned a visit to George Washington’s Birthplace in the Northern Neck, underscoring its significance in honoring early American legacy.

Wittman, who replaced Jo Ann Davis in 2007, has been a consistent voice in Congress for Virginia’s 1st district. Before Congress, he served in Virginia’s House of Delegates and the Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors. Wittman, a Virginia Tech alum born in Washington, D.C., continues to reside in Montross.
