Rep. Rob Wittman, representing Virginia’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently shared thoughts and activities via his social media engagements concerning small businesses, drone technology, and military appreciation. Wittman, who has served in Congress since 2007 and lives in Montross, continues to emphasize the importance of community, defense, and recognition of military service.
On May 1, 2025, Wittman noted on social media the beginning of National Small Business Month as an opportunity to “celebrate the entrepreneurs who drive our local economy and strengthen our communities.” He expressed gratitude for being joined by Hanover County Supervisor Ryan Hudson and Tommy Thompson of Mechanicsville Drug Store on a tour of local businesses. Later that day, Wittman commented on the evolving role of drones in modern warfare, describing them as both opportunities and threats. During a hearing, he pressed representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps, Defense Innovation Unit, and U.S. Army on addressing deficiencies in utilizing and defending against these systems. His statement can be read here.
In another post shared on the same day, Wittman acknowledged May as National Military Appreciation Month, underscoring Virginia’s significant military presence. He highlighted the state as the location of the Pentagon, numerous military bases, and major shipbuilding and naval operations, stating, “Virginia is proud to be home to the Pentagon, 27 military bases, the largest military shipbuilder, and the world’s largest naval station at Norfolk.” For the full text of his message, click here.
