Rep. Rob Wittman, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 1st district since 2007, has shared his views on national security and paid tribute to a colleague through recent social media posts.
On May 20, 2025, Wittman expressed concerns over national security issues related to China’s control over rare earth magnets. He stated that “America’s national security is at risk as China tightens its grip on rare earth magnets, critical components in everything from defense systems to electronics.” Wittman emphasized the need for rebuilding the domestic supply chain by addressing structural barriers and referred readers to his op-ed published in The Washington Post.
The following day, May 21, 2025, Wittman conveyed his condolences regarding the death of Congressman Gerry Connolly. In his message, he mentioned being “deeply saddened by the passing of my Virginia delegation colleague” and reflected on Connolly’s dedication to public service. He also noted working alongside Connolly for many years and admired his tenacity and spirit.
Later that same day, Wittman commented on advancements in missile defense systems under President Trump’s administration. He described the initiative as “President Trump’s Golden Dome marks a bold step forward for America’s national security.” He expressed pride in Congress’s investment towards developing a next-generation missile defense system designed to protect against advanced threats.
Rob Wittman’s long-standing career includes previous roles in the Virginia House of Delegates and Westmoreland County Board of Supervisors before joining Congress. Born in Washington D.C., he resides in Montross and holds a degree from Virginia Tech.
