Chad Green, a Virginia House representative, has called for accountability following allegations that Fairfax County Public Schools funded and facilitated student abortions. He warned that similar issues could emerge in other areas. Green shared his statement on Facebook.
“If school officials in Fairfax County did this, there must be accountability,” said Green, according to Facebook. “If it can happen there, it can happen here.”
In August 2025, Virginia officials initiated an investigation into Fairfax County Public Schools over claims that staff facilitated abortions for minors using public funds. This raised concerns about adherence to state parental-consent laws. Governor Glenn Youngkin instructed the Virginia State Police to conduct a criminal investigation, while lawmakers emphasized that minors must obtain either parental consent or court approval for abortions. According to Virginia Mercury, the case has become a contentious issue in state politics.
Virginia’s Auditor of Public Accounts routinely reviews state and local entities, including school funding. As of September 2024, the auditor released 31 reports covering 75 agencies and identified 256 audit findings for FY2024, with several related to education finances. These figures highlight the regularity of financial oversight, according to the Virginia Department of Accounts.
School healthcare funding controversies differ across the nation due to varying state laws. By 2025, 12 states had implemented full abortion bans, 10 restricted abortion coverage in private insurance, and 25 prohibited coverage in Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace plans. These policy differences influence how districts handle healthcare disputes, as reported by KFF.
Green, a Republican, has represented Virginia’s 69th House District since January 2024. He serves on the Education–K-12 Subcommittee and the Privileges and Elections–Election Administration panel. His roles align with his focus on school oversight and governance. The Virginia General Assembly documents his legislative background and committee service.
