At about 6:06 a.m. on November 18, 2025, emergency responders from James City County Police and Fire Departments arrived at the intersection of Monticello Avenue and Casey Boulevard after receiving a report that a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle.
The injured bicyclist was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the Medical Center of Virginia in Richmond by Life Evac. According to authorities, he is currently in critical condition.
A formal investigation into the incident was launched by the James City County Police Department Crash Team. Initial findings suggest that a 62-year-old man from James City County was riding an E-Bike on Ironbound Road when he entered the intersection against a red traffic signal. He was then struck by a 2008 GMC Envoy driven by a 72-year-old resident of York County, who had a green light.
The driver stopped immediately after the collision, as did several witnesses, and they contacted Peninsula Regional Emergency Communications. To ensure safety and assist with the investigation, westbound traffic on Monticello Avenue was temporarily rerouted.
Both vehicles involved—the GMC Envoy and the E-Bike—were taken to the James City County Law Enforcement Center for further analysis as part of standard procedure. A Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney also responded to the scene at the request of investigators.
No charges have been filed so far. The investigation continues.
