At around 1:38 p.m. on November 19, emergency responders from James City County Police and Fire departments were called to the 4600 block of Monticello Avenue following a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in front of Monticello Marketplace. Upon arrival, officers found an elderly male resident of James City County who had been hit by a cement truck while crossing the street with the aid of a walker. The man was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The James City County Police Crash Team is investigating the incident. A Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney was also present at the scene, which police state is standard protocol when the Crash Team is involved.

According to preliminary findings, “the pedestrian was unlawfully crossing the roadway when the collision occurred.” Authorities have not filed charges against either party involved—the cement truck driver or the pedestrian—at this time.
