James City County is exploring the possibility of selling the James City County Marina to private investors. The Marina, situated on Powhatan Creek in the Jamestown District, was purchased by the County in 2006. Since then, significant improvements have been made to enhance its appeal and functionality.

The County’s efforts include securing Billsburg Brewery as a tenant, replacing old docks with modern ones, and enhancing shoreline areas for environmental benefits. A comprehensive Master Plan has also been developed to guide future enhancements such as additional boat slips, marine services, and a waterfront restaurant.

These investments aim to attract private sector interest to further develop the Marina into a prominent waterfront destination. The County seeks a buyer who will continue investing in the property while respecting its historical significance.

Assistant County Administrator Jason Purse stated, “Given the state of the Marina when we purchased the property, it was understandable that there were few commercial operators looking to maintain the property at that time. With the investments the County has made over the years, we view this amenity as a wonderful feature in our community, and potentially one that may be best served for future development by a private organization.” He added that any sale would require approval from the Board of Supervisors.

To facilitate this process, CarverCo LLC, based in Richmond, has been hired to manage marketing and sales efforts for the property. Interested parties can contact them at 804-307-2881 for more information.
