Renovations at the James City County Recreation Center pool are underway, with officials announcing a new reopening date of February 2, 2026. The project aims to modernize the 40-year-old facility located at 5301 Longhill Rd.
The timeline for completion was extended after unexpected structural issues were found during construction, combined with delays caused by weather. The county stated that these factors pushed the reopening beyond the original estimate.
Upgrades include resurfacing the pool deck and interior bottom, installing a new central drainage system, raising the ceiling, improving lighting, adding poolside showers, updating ADA-accessible ramps and railings, enhancing the HVAC system, and building two poolside offices with storage space.
“We appreciate your patience throughout this process and are excited to share these renovations with the community! Please note that this schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather. If the opening date is delayed, updates will be emailed to Rec Center members and posted on the JCCRC Aquatics webpage and social media channels (Facebook and Instagram). Patrons may also call 757-259-4200 for the latest updates,” according to information from James City County.
To accommodate swimmers during construction, James City County has arranged partnerships with local aquatic facilities for lap swimming. Pool availability at these partner locations may change; residents can find updated schedules on the Aquatics webpage or by contacting the recreation center directly.
Carla Brittle, Tourism & Centers Administrator for James City County, is listed as the media contact for further inquiries.
