James City County Police seek public help in locating shooting suspect

On August 16, 2025, the James City County Police Department responded to a report of a male with multiple gunshot wounds in the 4900 block of Grand Strand Drive. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. According to police, the suspect was an unknown male who left the scene before officers arrived.

Emergency personnel provided medical aid at the scene and transported the victim to VCU Medical Center for further treatment.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Devante Gregory Lewis as a suspect. On August 16, 2025, Lewis was charged by James City County Police with aggravated malicious wounding (18.2-51.2), use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (18.2-53.1), and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (18.2-308.2).
