James City County Assistant Police Chief Anthony G. “Tony” Dallman will end his active-duty service with the James City County Police Department on December 16, 2025. His official retirement date is set for March 1, 2026, bringing to a close a career that has spanned 31 years.
Dallman began his tenure with the department in 1995, starting in the Uniform Division as a patrol officer. After five years in that role, he was promoted to Sergeant. In 2001, he advanced to Lieutenant and later became Major in April 2014. He took on the position of Assistant Police Chief in June 2022.
During his time with the department, Dallman held several leadership positions. He supervised the Uniform Division for eight years across all three patrol shifts and led the Community Services Unit for six years. At one point, he served as Interim Chief during a transitional period. His assignments included roles such as Patrol Officer, Radar Instructor, Taser Instructor, Field Training Officer, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Crisis Negotiator.
Dallman’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Mary Washington College and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University obtained in 2013. He completed executive training at the Professional Executive Leadership School at the University of Richmond and attended the FBI National Academy (257th session).
He is known within the community not only for his professional expertise but also for his leadership style and engagement with colleagues and residents. Dallman is married and has two adult sons.
